Does this company have any sort of respect for its shareholders? Does it realize how volatile its stock price has been ever since Q4 earnings report? Even a sliver of bad news can plunge the stock 10%. And now this? Yeah blah blah Ryzen yeah blah blah Threadpiper Someday Edition, Vega Someday Edition, APU Someday Edition.
FFS show some numbers on screen and give some prices, at this rate I'll just take my losses and invest in NGreedia at least I know they deliver on their promises, with AMD I don't know what to expect or believe anymore. Every launch is shaky and needs major updates, every other product is meh.
I just want a solid presentation man, something where I see numbers beating the competitor on perf or price/perf. Something professional oriented and consumer oriented. Wtf is the point of showing me Prey CF? How many people actually CF their cards? How many people WANT to when Nvidia is offering a cheaper and more stable alternative?
Intel has loads of cash to resist the onslaught of AMD if price drops.. AMD cant go into another war similar to what happened during the Athlon x2 era. Where AMD was so spread thin.. it started to lose position and fell by lagging in technology again.
Companies have secrets. Sometimes numbers even if shown, doesn't provide the full picture, and it still comes crashing down.
considering you mentioned losses... it sounds like you bought in only recently, buying into the ryzen megahype (mostly user hype and not so much AMD. AMD did not say Ryzen was the best thing since sliced bread) and hence therefore missing the earlier ryzen launch boat.
if you are so low on confidence for AMD growth potential, go buy NGreedia then. Stocks is always a risk. Don't play if you can't stomach it.
anyways, its not like AMD main growth factor for the next couple of years is going to be on consumer graphics cards.
If you expected more , that's on you We already knew that Vega and Epyc are launching later and it was common sense that Threadripper won't launch before Epyc. Anyone that expected more, was not informed and that's their own fault.
You had 2 positive surprises, the 8 cores laptop from Asus and the Dell AIO. And if you think others had better presentations, you haven't watched those.
Which shareholders you're talking about? The one that worries about 10% stock plunging a.k.a traders? AMD doesn't even get money from them buying the shares (except if they buy AMD products)
Even the intraday traders bring some value as they improve liquidity. If there were no traders then investors would face some difficulty selling at the chosen time and desired price. I am selling now because sentiment about Vega among nerds is not good (due to the Computex's disappointing presentation) and this will soon spread to investors. AMD will grow, but not today.
I'm a shareholder who bought "considerable" volume at $3 more than an year ago. So, what are you whining about? I reckon AMD stock value will go up for sure. Period.
I'm ditching Intel in favor of AMD and Vega platform (20-30 non-Gaming workstations to phase out old Intel machines based on WS boards).
ps: many annoying people like you who cried over rooftops to sell BTCs when it touched $1000 barrier. Some of my contacts and pals got convinced, abruptly sold their options (of course, they made a lot of profit!) despite my advise against it. BTW, I've bought BTCs ~$200!!
There was absolutely NO pricing or SKU information released at Computex for *any* product. This was one of the worst presentations I've ever seen.
I do think Threadripper is going to be competitive, but you have to wonder why they didn't give any specific details. As for Vega - the fact that they had to resort to Crossfire for the demo is very, very bad news. It's reminiscent of Polaris, where they did the same thing because they knew a single card wasn't competitive with Nvidia's high-end competition. Given the die size and TFlops, we should be seeing a SINGLE Vega beat GTX 1080 Ti and Titan Xp. But it looks like that's not happening.
How is that different from their direct Intel competition? All of these non-consumer-level platforms are expensive. Threadripper and Epyc will be priced competitively.
It is pretty clear at this point AMD fell victim to HBM2 availability - particularly the faster chips which they most likely require for their design. Then there are the actual chip yields as well from the sound of it. Meeting frequency high enough to even match Nvidia's last generation high end.
At this rate consumer cards on the shelf, won't be here till September - if that and most likely in limited(soldout) quantities.
HUGE disappointment and an even bigger let down to all potential amd gpu customers. Vega - super late and slower then Pascal.
A consumer Volta needs to come out and put an end to this ridiculus hype(bs) train.
Really not very good that they had crossfire Vegas running Prey. My almost 4 year old crossfire 290x's have no issue doing that. Come on AMD Give us the cards that are worth upgrading to. You got me with the 4k freesync monitor or I may have gone to the dark side by now.

You want them to be more like Intel, who just launched a whole new CPU range with unknown clock speeds?pcgposter - Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - link

They did have a perfect opportunity to shoot down Intel at least. Just announce 16 cores, 3.6GHz, $999 and Intel's HEDT market is dead.tamalero - Thursday, June 1, 2017 - link

So why would marketing hear-say matter anyway?

There is one more unexpected product, the QNAP TS-1277 NAS with 4 to 8 cores Ryzen.WorldWithoutMadness - Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - link

How can you possibly have losses with AMD's stock? I suggest you get out of the stock market if you do.JDG1980 - Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - link

I agree with you on the threadripper cpu. There has to be a catch, I dont know what it is. But once it benchmarks we will see.silverblue - Wednesday, May 31, 2017 - link

The tears in the comments are more interesting than the article itself.I recommend to AMD shareholders to buy a stuffed bear, hug it tight, and hang on to it.
