So check my timeline: Hard drive makers 'horizontally integrate' down to two, flood in Thailand increases prices, innovation nearly stops, prices stay 'fixed' in place for a decade....

fake news, this is never going ship. and if by miracle it does it will be so expensive it will never ship in any real volume.

Interesting! So, Seagate and WD announce, announce, and don't ship, and Toshiba just goes ahead and rolls MAMR HDDs out? Now, let's see when the first Toshibas are available for tests.

Are any of the "5D optical storage" technologies rewritable? I would like to see that come to market. If it's not rewritable, maybe it won't matter if the capacity can be in the hundreds or thousands of terabytes range.

I get three dimensions - but the annoying marketing term "5D optical storage" is just misleading with its extra dimensions.

Call it quartz discs, memory crystals, holographic storage, whatever. I don't care what it's called, as long as it works.

It’s not misleading at all. Clearly it’s to set us up for the new 6D optical storage, at 2x the price, in the following decade.

I hope it ships and at a good price. Good technology is nothing without good pricing.
