Hold on a second. I am confused. The board pictures is a X570. What is going on? Does the B550 board actually have a fan, or is this a case of mistaken identity and somewhere somehow somebody confused a X570 board with a B550 board?
Oh god. Their marketing on their website is so full of little funny nuggets. Quote:
"Both M.2 slots use PCI-E 4.0. The first M.2 slot supports PCI-E 4.0 channel and SATA mode for data transmission, and the second M.2 slot only supports PCI-E 3.0 channel."
Yeah, you read that right. The second M.2 slot also use PCI-E 4.0, but only supports PCI-E 3.0
Or: "Full Cover Cooling Fin. High thermal conductive materials to strengthen heat dissipation for power supper."
I tell you, try some spicy Chinese power supper and you will be glad for any opportunity for shedding some heat...
"L.R T MOS Tube. Low RDS MOS tube can provide higher conversion efficiency".
Audiophiles will approve of VRMs with tubes. Which, by the way, is also necessary for the "Nature Audio System" the board employs. I am looking forward to hearing all the warm high-fidelity sounds of birds chirping, leaves rustling and waves rolling when turning on the board.
Yeah, just another component to burn out in 3 years. Most definitely going to be some cheap proprietary sleeve bearing fan.
But the x570 chipset does use 8-watts at load without any overclocking. This is actually pretty high and likely due to PCIe 4.0 since the chipsets are otherwise pretty similar (feature wise) to the 4xx series chipsets. But again, nothing a decent heatsink shouldn't handle in a ventilated case.
X570 absolutely need one. You are an idiot if you think X570 will always be running in ideal environment. Without adequate airflow or even just hot room, X570 without a fan will fail.
Dotjaz, the chipset TDP is 8 watts. Considering the surface area of the chipset package, it might not even require a heat sink - although AMD partner guidelines specify a heat sink to guarantee environmental variables (such as poorly ventilated cases) don’t reduce reliability.
Historically there is plenty of precedent that sub-10w chips do not need active cooling, and many sub-8w chips have been implemented for decades without even passive (heatsink/heat spreader) cooling going back to the 386 CPU.
Maybe this board's in stealth mode, just like the fighter jets silk screened on the board. Speaking of stealth, I've never heard of this company, though I see there's several press releases from them when I search Anandtech.
They're a large, previously OEM-only manufacturer in China that has branched out with their own products in recent years. They make all sorts of stuff, from GPUs to Motherboards and even stereo systems. Mostly budget stuff, but some interesting parts here and there.
I know it's the wrong motherboard image, but on the X570 board, "gaming frozen" might be the wrong message to send to English speaking customers. The last thing I want is for my games to constantly freeze. It'd be like running Windows 9x and ME all over again.
Heck yeah, then I can require a USB hub just to connect my keyboard and mouse at the same time.
There's really no reason to get rid of USB-A other than fashion. Aside from being an extremely common connector on peripherals(and thus something a system should support), it is also a better connector than USB-C in almost every regard.
USB-C makes sense on cellphones, where the most important feature in a connector is actually size(micro-USB3 was kind of a joke in that regard), except for all the devices where people are hooking them up as USB2 ports.
Wireless keyboards and mouses do exist. Hopefully by then the shitshow that is Windows wireless tech will have improved (looks at my Apple gear where almost all my wireless keyboards and mouses from various manufacturers mysteriously work rather better than they do on my Windows boxes).
Most modern monitors include USB hubs anyway and you can plug your wireless dongle into them so it's a bit nearer the keyboard / mouse rather than hidden under your desk & communicating through various layers of paperwork and desk materials.
Do these MBs support Bluetooth? Doesn't say that, so I doubt that they do. Maybe after one installs a wireless networking adapter. Apart from that, I still prefer wired keyboards, saves me from having to remember charging a wireless one.
You had me until stating that USB-A is better than USB-C in almost every regard. I just don't agree. They are both good connectors that serve different purposes. I happen to prefer USB-C but to each their own.
USB-A is a nuisance. It’s huge and it can only be plugged in one way. USB-C is much better but the design’s still crappy. I’m not an Apple fan but the Lightning connector should be made universal. Every device including the chargers should have only Lightning port(s).
I'm hoping my next board (eta about 2 years) will be 4+4 on the back and have connections for 2+2 up front. Enough A ports I don't need to buy another hub to connect all my legacy devices, and enough modern ports to carry me forward to ~2030.
Finally! Nice to see some cheaper B550 mobos coming out. Hopefully the larger companies are just following the strategy of hoovering up the cash of early adopters by only releasing high end models before announcing / releasing their cheaper B550 models later in the year.
Come on, guys. It's white - well, the CVN Frozen V14 - and it's mATX! What's not to like? I thought I might be forced into an ASRock Steel Legend to get some color out of the B550Ms that seem to all subscribe to Henry Ford's "you can have any colr you like as long as it's black" philosophy. Long ago I decided mATX was the right size...no more humongous towers for me. And iTX is just plain off my radar. Let's see what Colorful comes up with after it's on the market and properly reviewed. Anyone else think this B550 launch was just disastrous? Nothing is in stock - reviews seem to be just reading off manufacturers' website specs. Not impressed so far.
Anybody got a source for this CVN B550M Gaming Frozen V14? Colorful says it's released and and gives me a half dozen (Chinese, Viet and SE Asian) vendors - who either don't have or list it yet - I'd buy one if available 'cuz it's the right color! Yes, I know it's sub $140 and probably just 'usable' - but all I want is MB for a 3600 (maybe a 3700) without OCVing. (NewEgg tells me they review all products and they and their vendors give us what they 'know we want.') Hey - MSI. ASUS, Gigabyte and ASRock - I want a white motherboard for my mATX case! I'd buy the Colorful, if I could find a way to get it! Wake up! It was a purely lousy B550 launch, you guys! Maybe I should just go back to Intel.
Anybody note an offer at https://www.wquare.xyz/products/amd---ryzen-5-3600... Company called SANUS with priced for a AMD - Ryzen 5 3600 3rd Generation 6-Core - 12-Thread - 3.6 GHz (4.2 GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 Unlocked Desktop Processor $172.99(price crossed out) SALE PRICE: $72.99 ? Scam or best deal out there?
It's mid-Aug 2020, Gavin, so wWhy can't I get a white mATX motherboard from Colorful? So I want to upgrade from my current AMD Ryzen 5-2600 to a 3000 CPU for my current mATX build. I want a B550M motherboard in white. (And, yes, I know ASRock has motherboards with some white or silverish panels or heatsink coverings, but they are not white motherboards!) Colorful has recently released a CVN B550M Gaming Frozen V14 mATX motherboard with a suggested retail price of US$125, but other than Colorful product announcements last month (July) in anandtech (here!), wccftech, TechPowerUp, back2gaming, and several some other techie-sites, the only place I see this motherboard listed is banggood.com for US$202.69, marked down to $189.99 with $20 new user coupon and $0.98 shipping, but 3 weeks transit...or on aliexpress.com, I found it for $143.86, with $2 discount (new user), $10.69 S&H, and $6.11 to use PayPal, and again 2-3 weeks transit from China. Again the Colorful announcement listed this white (the Frozen) gaming model at $125 and a black, simpler Colorful B550M Gaming Pro for closer to $120. I don't want a rip-off like I see on Banggood's vendors; and the two aliexpress vendors I see are also charging a high premium. I contact Amazon and they won't give me the time of day for a new product request! And the two requests and two comments sent to NewEgg get the same cold shoulder - "We don't carry that product. Thank you for your interest." Doesn't anyone else want a white mATX motherboard? (OK, screed over - y'all take care of yourselves - stay healthy and happy!) :-)

Putting a fan on a B550 chipset.Absolute lunacy. X570 doesnt really need one, and B550 DEFINETLY doesnt need one.

Yeah. The look of the board would be alright if there wasn't that fan. The fan kinda turns the board into a joke...MrVibrato - Thursday, July 9, 2020 - link

Colorful (mistakenly?) put photos of their X570 board on the B550 page, and presumably send that to Anand as well.https://colorful.cn/product_show.aspx?mid=84&i...

If you scroll down a bit, there's a picture of the white B550 board, and it doesn't have a fan.
