Near EOL product bundle with dead game. Perfect match!
  • DigitalFreak - Thursday, July 30, 2020 - link

Yep. Anyone who buys an RTX 20x series card right now is crazy, unless they absolutely need one. RTX 30x is like a month or two away.
  • Beaver M. - Thursday, July 30, 2020 - link

    They were before that too.
    Turding was a horrible generation.
  • senttoschool - Thursday, July 30, 2020 - link

Nah. Turing is one the best generations.

While performance increase wasn't the best, the introduction of DLSS and Ray Tracing changed gaming forever.
  • Spunjji - Friday, July 31, 2020 - link

Performance increase was fine, PPW increase was adequate, but crucially PP$ barely moved. That - plus the obvious Beta nature of the RT features - made it a terrible-value series from top-to-bottom on release. The Super cards improved that a little, but not a whole lot.

As for DLSS changing gaming forever - lolno. RT might do, but it's a little bit early to be making that claim - and even if it ends up being true, Turing will still have been a terrible value proposition forced on consumers by a company acting as a functional monopoly.

"DLSS changing gaming forever - lolno"

a little bit early to be making that claim. we ain't seen AI yet. a giant supernova looks very small from distance
  • Beaver M. - Friday, July 31, 2020 - link

I hope they keep improving it. Because it causes ugly artifacts in some scenes. Just like their AI upscaling on their Shields.
Funnily nobody is reporting about either of those. Very interesting.
  • Beaver M. - Friday, July 31, 2020 - link

Performance increase was laughable. VRAM was laughable, and even technical issues were rampant for a long time with the stuttering (probably them trying to optimize their compression due to too low VRAM). And the biggest joke was the price.
All together it was a horrible generation. No RTX or DLSS will hide that.

If Super launched as the original Turing and the 2080 had the 2080 Ti's Performance it would be fine.

    970 = 780 Ti/ 1070 = 980 Ti/ 2070 S = 1080 Ti
    1060 = 980/ 2060 S = 1080

    +100

Mad, bad time to buy a GPU from either vendor.

    Dead game?

R6 Seige is near top of the steam charts with over 100K players today and it's not even a native steam game.

If you include non-steam players who just use Ubisoft launcher like me i'm sure it's much higher.

You will still be dead very quickly in that game as a new player. Their matchmaking sucks, plus its crowded with smurfing losers.
I tried starting into it 3 years ago, and back then it was bad already. Will take a very determined mind to get anywhere. And IMO its not worth that, because of its consolish gameplay. I would rather dive into CSGO again, or even PUBG. More more satisfying games.
  • GTan - Thursday, July 30, 2020 - link

They have skilled based match making, so as a new player, you'd be playing against new players.

Surfing is still an issue, but most all online FPS have smurfing issues, so that's not only confined to Siege.

It's still a pretty fun game, there are casual modes which is way less toxic. You can provide all the anecdotal evidence you want, but just because you couldn't get into it doesn't mean other players won't enjoy it.

Lol don't get me started on PUBG...optimized trash
  • Beaver M. - Friday, July 31, 2020 - link

Well, Im not the only one talking about it. Lots of streamers and Youtubers have stopped playing it because of what I just said and you could see it happening in their streams and videos.
    Their matchmaking sucks. Period.

I too base my understanding of the world on which video games I see videos of on YouTube and then assume reality is such a way absent of Google's adaptation of search results and recommendations algorithms. Its truly the most informed way to live out my life.
  • Plancktonne - Sunday, August 2, 2020 - link

Please don't use PUBG and optimized in one sentence, someone might misunderstand and it harms
the image of ongoing efforts from the developers to make the worst performing game possible.
  • khanikun - Thursday, July 30, 2020 - link

I definitely don't see it as a dead game. I don't get the bundle either though. Most people that want the game, have gotten it. Course, most games that end up bundled with an Nvidia card has been an Ubisoft game. The Division, Hawk, Watch Dogs, For Honor, etc. They probably ran out of games from Ubisoft to bundle, that they haven't already bundled before.

I wanted Death Stranding for free myself, but my laptop that I just bought wasn't part of the bundle, even though it has an RTX 2070 in it. Guess since it's last year's model, not this years, wasn't part of it.
  • PaulHoule - Thursday, July 30, 2020 - link

It beats Death Stranding. My teenager who is a big Metal Gear Solid fan doesn't want me to get within 100 miles of that game.
  • LordSojar - Thursday, July 30, 2020 - link

The gameplay of Death Stranding is odd, but satisfying in some weird way. Maybe we all have the deep desire to be a courier in a hellscape? I dunno.

All I know is, you play Death Stranding for its beautiful story and ambiance. You should try it, at least.
  • GreenReaper - Friday, July 31, 2020 - link

It's not a Metal Gear Solid game. It's kind of off doing its own thing, which is refreshing, but still with the quirkiness you expect from its director (and I know it's dangerous to give too much weight to that, but news coverage showed him being quite micro-managey).

Arguably a few bits could have done with more editing, if only for length - let's assume we suspend disbelief for some of the more fantastical aspects (I'd say it *is* fantasy, just with some trappings of science fiction).

There is a game there, whether you seek battles or a simpler life delivering packages. But the mix of the twp, and other unorthodox aspects means it is not a game that all will appreciate, and this is arguably a failure of marketing - if you buy one thing and expect another, you are liable to be disappointed. Perhaps it should not have been a AAA game with a AAA budget, and then they would not have had to reach AAA sales.

I still play Siege five years on. It is a fantastic game, but this is laughable. R6 Siege has always been a buggy game, but for the past 6 months or so, it has been at its worst.

I'm not so sure I would enjoy Siege as much as a new player now as I did back when it was new. I was awful, but so were most people. Now the skill ceiling is intimidating. Most of that comes from map knowledge and excellent aim. You can get decent aim and map knowledge through the coop modes at least.
