IT should be ran for ryzen zen2 4000 apu. The main reason of budget pc is budget hardware. Cheap mobo plus Cheap cpu with internal graphics. 4000 apu potentianly KILL Intel chip i3 10th gen if it has Cheaper mobo. Now 4000 apu for New custom pc / diy pc only sold as complete New oem pc.

The Ryzen 4000 APU's have been announced, just not available to retail. They would seem to be ideal for these .... shame none have 2.5G ethernet or two m.2 slots in Itx.. so B550 ?

    > Meanwhile, A520 also supports a couple of different configuration options with the 4 high-speed storage lanes coming from the host CPU. This includes building a full-fledged PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot, two PCIe 3.0 x2 M.2 slots, or a PCIe 3.0 x2 M.2 slot with two additional SATA ports.

Right after this is a table showing PCIe 4.0 for all that, which doesn't agree with the rest of the article.

Sneaky little tableses. Wicked, tricksy, false!

    (Thanks for the heads up!)

ASRock A520M Pro doesnt support Zen+ ryzen 3 3200G but the ryzen 3 Zen2 4350G not listed on cpulist A520M Pro. But it has hdmi output, for what?
Msi A520M Pro support 4350G anyway.

The AMD zen1 12nm has GPU on several chips. AMD Ryzen 3 PRO 3200GE or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G [Passmark 7250]that comparable to Intel Core i3-9300 [Passmark 7267] has powerful Vega8 internal GPU than Intel 630 UHD has.

The AMD Zen2 7nm Ryzen 3 Pro 4350G around 149 - 170 USD [Passmark 11446] has came out already that comparable to reviewed intel Core i3-10100 130 USD [Passmark 9078] above. However it should be sold as an oem / you must buy it as a whole new computer (DIY PC bundled in my local area). The cheapest motherboard for this ryzen 3 pro 4350G is ASRock B550M-HDV $80 (the B450M-HDV R4 $70 bios not support it yet but 3300X does).

The cheapest LGA1200 socket for 10th gen intel Core i3-10100 is ASRock H410M-HDV $60.

    So price / perf ratio AMD 4350G = (149+80) / 11446 = 0.02 while intel i3-10100 = (60+130) / 9078 = 0.0209. Almost the same. The price / perf ratio AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 95 USD = (95 + 70) / 7250 = 0.0227. If you got 4350G with 149 USD it will be worth otherwise intel has more value.

If A520M came at 70USD than super budget

$100 for MoBo ain't that "budget".
  • nathanddrews - Tuesday, August 18, 2020 - link

I thought desktop 4000-series CPUs (not desktop 4000-series APUs) were Zen 3, requiring a new socket?
  • Koenig168 - Tuesday, August 18, 2020 - link

Ryzen 4000 is still AM4. The next socket change is with Ryzen 5000.
  • Ryan Smith - Tuesday, August 18, 2020 - link

Zen 3 is already confirmed for AM4.

I wonder how long it will be until some enterprising hacker figures out a way to unlock PCIe 4.0 on it.
  • Carmen00 - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

PCIe 4.0 needs additional hardware for maintaining a good signal, so good luck to such hackers - I would be very surprised if such hardware is present on A520 motherboards. Excluding it would reduce cost and margins are already low in this segment.
  • PandaBear - Thursday, August 20, 2020 - link

You cannot. The PCIe IP are different logics and you cannot just unlock it. You need license and import them from the verilog and then tape out a new chip in TSMC.

Ah good. Now just to get the Zen2 APUs out in the wild for us mere mortals, and I might finally be able to justify upgrading my A8-3870K. Yes, really.

I generally do internet, streaming video and some DXVK gaming on Linux (or I would, if I had a GPU capable of doing actual Vulkan....) so I don't need huge grunt, but something with modern turbo characteristics and less power use would be pretty nice. I reckon £200-£250 would get me something that would happily do me a few years, longer if I slot a GPU in later down the line if I fancy DXVKing Doom Eternal or something.

I do like modern budget systems, they're really rather capable these days.

Isn't DOOM already based in Vulkan? And given that the first one was able to be ported to the Switch, I'd be surprised if Eternal wouldn't run quite nicely on an APU.
  • Beany2013 - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

Something something Linux, something something drivers, innit. My GPU is an R280, which is really a....7970 I think. Vulkan on Linux on that hardware just ain't happening.
  • Spunjji - Thursday, August 20, 2020 - link

Oof, grim! And yes, you're right about the 280 being the rebranded 7970.
  • ET - Thursday, August 20, 2020 - link

If you haven't yet been able to justify upgrading from an A8-3870K, I don't see why Zen 2 APUs would do that.

In that price range you could have bought a 3400G + A320 or cheap B450 board + 16GB
  • ET - Thursday, August 20, 2020 - link

Damn premature enter and lack of editing.

... 16GB of fast RAM. The difference in performance between an entry level Ryzen 4000G and the 3400G is minuscule, especially compare to the difference between the 3400G and the A8-3870K.
  • Spunjji - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

Glad to see it, but a little miffed by the stated lack of backwards-compatibility for even the 3-series APUs. I'll have to have a look at the manufacturers' pages to see if anyone's doing it unofficially, because I'd really like to pick up a board and CPU now with a view to upgrading with a 4000 series APU later, or maybe even one of the Zen 3 APUs when those roll around.
  • Spunjji - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

That would be a no for the two ITX models I'm interested in. Sad times!

Oh well - probably gonna pick up a second-hand 2400G + motherboard and tweak it 'til it squeals instead.
  • lmcd - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

3-series APU is really a 2-series CPU core, hence the problem.
  • Spunjji - Thursday, August 20, 2020 - link

I'm aware of that wrinkle - I was hoping that one of the manufacturers might have snuck in unofficial support for them, as they're currently the only AM4 APUs available brand-new to end-users, and most of these boards seem to have HDMI outputs 😬
  • jtd871 - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

If B550 is a "mid-tier" chipset, the board pricing sure doesn't reflect it, IMO.
  • ET - Thursday, August 20, 2020 - link

Why? What's your definition of mid-tier? There are quite a few B550 boards in the $100-$150 range.
  • mooninite - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

These boards are shipping with only 1Gb NICs. Is 2.5Gb too early to be considered "budget" level? *sigh*
  • Spunjji - Thursday, August 20, 2020 - link

Seems so! It's been a long old wait for it to even make it to high-end boards.
  • edanand - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

Good on Gigabyte for including their BIOS flashback (Q Flash Plus) on these $70 budget boards. That means I’ll probably be buying one when Ryzen 4000 releases, as it’ll be a few weeks/months before you can confidently buy a A520/B550 preloaded with the requisite firmware.
  • DiHydro - Wednesday, August 19, 2020 - link

When they announce no overclocking. Does that mean a non-user adjustable multiplier and core voltage? I assume the XMP and PBO is still working?
  • UNCjigga - Thursday, August 20, 2020 - link

Would love to see this chipset in a NUC-style mini-PC with an embedded Ryzen 4000 APU.
  • 29a - Monday, December 7, 2020 - link

Why would I choose this over B450?
