And a motherboard sacrifice of three slots. Good thing everything is integrated these days.

    Then get an mATX case?
  • shabby - Wednesday, May 24, 2023 - link

Umm wow, trying to comprehend how useful this case is but cant.

Well that's because you have no imagination.
This form factor is ideal for when you want a small foot print case that still fits ludicrously large GPUs and radiators. It's a very niche design, with a reasonable-ish price.

If you want a small case that can fit a 4090 in it, why not just get one of the actual small cases out there that can fit a 4090, not this gigantic tall cube

If you want a case that's just barely big enough to hold a 4090 but which will be obsoleted by anything even slightly smaller you could shave a few inches off the height (303mm for the FE card, 365mm maximum supported card size, 458mm total height); and the designers probably could have future proofed another inch or two of card growth I'm sure you can find that case for sale elsewhere.

This ones size was clearly driven by being big enough to support a 360mm radiator.

That said, unless it's due to a relative lack of AIO options I think designing around a similarly performing 280mm rad would have made more sense. 1" wider or deeper but 3" shorter would at least be more conventionally proportioned.

Even if 280mm AIOs aren't common now, Corsair sells them too so there's no reason they couldn't push a line of them hard if they wanted to capturing a much larger share of the sales in the process.

Yeah, that's basically what the Dan C4SFX does. The only problem with the Dan C4, is that it costs about US$200, and that's before shipping from EU.

gpu length up to 320mm straight from the website. also 3 slots so not very many large gpus will fit. Also 24l which takes it out of SFF territory which is up to around 20l. Meshlicious is tinier better laid out and fits plenty of large gpus. I suppose one would go with this Corsair if you want the brand and dont want to deal with a riser cable.

It's basically a FT03-Mini with a million sacrifices to fit a big GPU. The FT03-mini could only fit 10.5" which was pretty standard with blowers, which unfortunately no longer exist, making ITX SFF builds very difficult because modern GPU coolers don't exhaust any heat out of the case.

Thats a lot of money for an empty metal box.
  • ripsteakjaw - Friday, May 26, 2023 - link

cases tend to be empty metal boxes, and things cost what they cost. modern pricing is not going to come down to match your out of date pay level or conception of what's cheap and what's expensive
  • PeachNCream - Friday, May 26, 2023 - link

Thats certainly a thinly veiled insult about my income in the absence of any credible data. Nice try, though it's a sadly typical aggressive response by someone upset about computer components of all things. I'm not sure why you'd invest that much emotion into it, but you do you fam.
  • ripsteakjaw - Wednesday, May 31, 2023 - link

You've misunderstood. I'm not "upset about computer components" because my identity is invested in expensive computer crap, or trying to insult your income, I'm talking about people not demanding their income rise commenserate with the cost of things (because they've had it drilled into them that that's bad form or something), instead, just assuming everything has "gotten expensive" but that surely it'll settle back down into a reasonable level, which is not going to happen. Things generally cost what they cost as much as they've always had, people just don't get paid what they should. If you're getting a bargain, then it's cause somebody was getting paid a nickel an hour in a sweatshop somewhere.

I'm using a case with the same desk footprint (but nine cm shorter), and I find it a convenient size to have *on* the desk. Ports are at a convenient location, and with the case not being so deep/long there is space for placing peripherals in front of it.

The problem with SFF cases of this form factor has traditionally been that of airflow and how to fit a GPU. It's good to see those issues addressed here.

Silly that this one does not fit an ATX power supply though. BTW. It would have been useful to have seen a picture of the internals with components fitted, to get a better feel for it.
