I almost got excited thinking Anandtech was giving out Vodka based drinks at IDF. Thanks, Purch.
Purch: I'd rather see some small giveaways of products reviewed by Anandtech, with manufacturer and Anandtech logos/propaganda on it. Don't be too chintzy; USB 3.0 sticks, a tee shirt (size XL), something totally geeky for a good laugh, or a Razer Blade 14/Pro. I'd be happy to do some smiles and user feedback on the Razer Blade to get one. Hey, I'll even click some extra ad links on the site. Let's be real and say Anandtech has had some good giveaways over the years; for this one I questioned the value of the effort.
I'm sure you can find some alcoholic beverages at IDF if you look hard enough ;)
The "value" of this effort is more to get readers onto the forums. Many readers have had accounts for years but don't visit the forums; many forum lifers don't read the articles. This is our attempt to bring the two groups together. It's not the greatest prize, but it also doesn't take much in order to win.
Hi! Kevin here, the guy running this. This is very much open to ALL users, regardless of where you are. We are happy to send these screwdrivers out to wherever you might live :)
That is a standard $1.00 4-in-1 screwdriver with a logo printed on it. AnandTech claims to give it to us straight in their articles, I would expect them to do the same in their self promotion.
Holy S**t. The new dis-improved Anandtech just spent $10 on it readers! Seriously, is the whiskey messing with my vision, or did you really say you're giving away all TEN screwdrivers? TEN? TEN!!??
You don't have to be a forum poster to be a fan of Anandtech. I have made barely any posts on the forums, yet I've been reading almost every article on the blog and commenting for years now.
I feel like a behind-the-scenes conversation about this giveaway goes something like this:
Anandtech: Seriously? A screw driver? You think our reader base would appreciate something like this? Purch: Sure, tech people need screw drivers for computer activities and this is a great and cheap way to get your brand further out there. Anandtech. Sure....just watch the comment thread on this and get back to us.
Seriously, Purch couldn't pony up the bucks for a proper enthusiast-grade multi-bit kit? I'm trying to think of a bad joke right now that's worse than that driver in the picture, but I can't.
any chance my screwdriver could come customized with a full screen snapdragon background video, adverts targeted and slurped down from my cookies, or some cyber dood underwear? :p
I can't believe it. AnandTech is giving away some free swag, and it's something more useful than a keyring, lanyard, etc., and all people want to do is complain! It is FREE people. Besides, if you have ever looked at the swag companies, you know it isn't cheap to have a personalized device unless you buy hundreds if not thousands of pieces.
I bought one of these screwdrivers at the hardware store for $5.00. Extremely handy tool to have. I'll be heading over to the forum to enter to win this.
